About Kodumela Bokamoso

The future is not found. It is built — learner by learner.

Kodumela Bokamoso Youth Development is a non-profit organisation established in response to the growing need to develop leaders within rural communities.

The name

Kodumela moepathuse, ga go lehumo le le tšwago kgauswi.

Direct English rendering

Persevere; wealth does not come from nearby.

Northern Sotho (Sepedi) proverb

Meaning

Worthwhile achievement requires perseverance, effort and the willingness to go beyond what is immediately within reach.

Bokamoso means the future. Kodumela Bokamoso carries the instruction and the object together: persevere — for the future. It is an unusually accurate name for an organisation whose work is holiday schools, repeated expos and matric results that move a few points a year.

Why we exist

A learner in a rural school can carry every bit of the ability needed for medicine, engineering or actuarial science and still never enter those fields — not through any failure of their own, but because no one in their daily world holds those jobs, the gateway subjects are under-resourced, and the application system assumes a family that has navigated it before.

Kodumela Bokamoso exists to close that distance. Our publicly stated purpose covers leadership development, life-skills training, improving rural-school performance, preparing learners for tertiary education and work, career guidance, learner support, sport and school-development interventions — delivered as one connected journey rather than isolated events.

Mission

To make the future visible, reachable and enterable for learners whom geography has kept from it.

Objectives

  • Academic improvement

Lift performance in the gateway subjects that decide tertiary access.

  • Career exposure

Make careers visible, concrete and reachable for learners who have never met one.

  • Leadership development

Build the character and capability to lead beyond the classroom.

  • Life skills

Equip learners for the decisions and pressures that follow school.

  • Tertiary readiness

Carry learners through applications, funding and first-year arrival.

  • School and community support

Strengthen the institution so change outlasts any single learner.
