School Support
Change a school and you change every learner who passes through it.
Long-term partnerships with struggling rural high schools — turnaround strategies, learner support, sport and infrastructure development — designed to lift the whole institution, not one cohort.
Individual interventions fade when the school around them stays under-resourced. Kodumela's approach is to target high schools that are struggling and work with them on turnaround strategies, testing what actually works before formalising it into a programme.
The programme model
How it runs, stage by stage.
- 01
Identify need
The specific problems a school faces determine which programmes Kodumela runs there.
- 02
Match support
Partnerships with companies and institutions of higher learning supply people and resources.
- 03
Deliver learning
Interventions run inside the school's own calendar and structures.
- 04
Expose opportunity
Better matric results, and better-prepared learners who succeed beyond school.
- 05
Follow progress
Matric pass rates are tracked at school and circuit level over years.
What participants experience
- A partnership measured in years, not a single visit
- Programmes chosen for the school's actual problems
- Alumni returning to teach in their own former classrooms
- Results reported openly to the school and community
Typical activities
- Long-term school partnerships, beginning with Nakedi Secondary School in 2008
- Turnaround strategies designed around each school's specific problems
